A favorite exhibit at the Philly Flower Show. Many stunning examples of skilled design and display, but the reflective message behind this one struck me the most. The extraordinarily short winter and early spring flew by so quickly that Camellia season was overshadowed, but not forgotten. The Camellia grijsii was particularly showy for a few weeks. What a wondrous place is Winterthur’s many floors and 175 rooms! The Montmorenci double staircase… Walking into a former badminton court deep in the basement levels with the actual facades of Red Lion inn and other buildings, plus a lane of real storefronts and wares. A storybook library, Andy Warhol’s old furniture, Paul Revere’s silver tankards, and a chest made of William Penn’s Treaty Elm at the bottom of a lonely staircase corner. 90,000 art and artifacts of mostly early American craftsmanship. The March Bank, a key feature of the 1,000 acre grounds and gardens, was only just starting its annual waves of color, so it was a great day to spend mostly indoors at Winterthur. Here is the conservatory and exterior of the 175-room house museum of H. F. du Pont. The Cerebral Garden by Jennifer Designs was a favorite at the @philadelphiaflowershow Always nice visiting Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden! I spent a couple days there this week teaching at the Winter Symposium and Pesticide Recertification, an annual event by Lewis Ginter, the Central Virginia Nursery and Landscape Association, and Virginia Cooperative Extension.
